Montario Hardesty hit the road this spring and summer visiting some of his favorite schools.
"I went to camp and North Carolina State and North Carolina," Hardesty said. "I also visited Clemson and Virginia. I liked both the camps. I went to Virginia to take pictures for a Top 50 thing and I walked around there and met with the coaches. Clemson was more of a junior day and I met the coaches there. I liked all of them."
Lately Hardesty has been running Junior Olympic track. "I've been running a lot of track," said Hardesty. "I've been running the 100, 200, and 4 X 100. Our 4 X 100 team has the fastest time in the nation. I also ran my personal best in the 100--I ran a 10.57."
At this point, Hardest has a number of offers. "I think I have 16, 18, somewhere around there," Hardesty said of his offers. "I haven't really started to narrow it down yet."
The Irish are recruiting Hardesty but he doesn't have an offer yet from Notre Dame. "I get mail from them all the time," said Hardesty. "I haven't talked to them in a while. I talked to coach Diedrick about two weeks ago but that has been about it. They can't call me because of the rules. I'm waiting for them to offer me. I want to take a visit to Notre Dame."
The coaches can call again in September and Hardesty says he's already doing his homework. "I've been looking at the depth charts to see who has what coming back," he said. "I've also been looking at what they have to offer as far as academics. I'll just talk to them and let my Dad and Mom talk to them and see if we can narrow it down to five. My Dad and I have already started talking about narrowing it down to five early in my season."
The plan as of now is to take his official visits. "I plan to take my visits. I don't know if I'll take all five," Hardesty said. "I don't know if I'll take some during the season or not. That might be kind of hard because you would have to leave late Friday night. I guess I could take some during the season."
We asked Hardesty if he had a list of favorites at this point. "I haven't really narrowed it down yet," Hardesty said. "North Carolina State, North Carolina, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Clemson are some of my top schools."
Comments: The Irish might have to throw their hat in the ring with an offer soon if they want to stay in the race for Hardesty. He does appear to have a sincere interest in Notre Dame. We'll check back with Hardesty in September once the coaches can start calling again.
