Tight End Jeff Cottam took it easy this summer. With a host of offers, Cottam had nothing to prove by attending a lot of camps.
"I went to the Nike camp in Atlanta and a camp at Ole Miss," Cottam said. "I didn't go to any others. I did go to see my brother at Tennessee, but that was just to see my brother."
Cottam already has a host of offers to choose from.
"I have a bunch of offers," Cottam said. "North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Maryland, that's some of them," Cottam said when asked who has offered him.
The Irish are recruiting Cottam, but they've yet to offer him a scholarship at this point.
"Notre Dame is recruiting me," Cottam said. "They have not offered me yet. They send me a lot of letters, but I don't have an offer yet."
Even without and Irish offer, Cottam still rates the Irish high on his list.
"I like them a lot," Cottam said of Notre Dame. "They have great tradition there. I've always had an interest in Notre Dame. They're definitely in my top four."
We asked Cottam to describe his game and talk about where most schools wanted to use him in college.
"They are all recruiting me as a tight end," Cottam said of the schools recruiting him. "They say that I'm really agressive and that I like to get after people. I'm also pretty fast for a guy my size."
The Volunteers could have the inside track for Cottam as he already has a brother that plays tight end for Tennessee.
"A lot of people say I'll go to Tennessee," Cottam said. "They are one of my top schools, but I would have to sit behind my brother for three years at tight end before I could play, and I'd like to play sooner than that."
Cottam says he plans to take his time before making his final decision, and will likely take some of his official visits.
"I'm sure I'll take at least a few official visits," Cottam said. "I'm in no hurry to make my decision. I don't know when I'll take my visits. I do know I'll take at least a couple before deciding."
We asked Cottam what would be important to him when choosing a school.
"I think how I fit in there," Cottam said. "How good the program is doing is also important, and I'll look at playing time and how quick I can get on the field."
Comments: Cottam appears to be wide open at this point. He has mentioned Tennessee, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Auburn as his top schools in the past. The Irish have yet to offer, but he still lists the Irish in his top four--that usually means a player has a strong interest. We'll check back in September to see if Notre Dame is still recruiting Cottam.
