Eubanks Staying Patient

Cretin Derham high school in St. Paul, Minn. has always produced a number of top high school players. Offensive lineman Rafael Eubanks is another in a long line of star athletes that will sign a D1 scholarship from the famed school. Eubanks has a long list of suitors, but what about Notre Dame?

Offensive lineman Rafael Eubanks has a list of offers that any athlete would be excited about.

"Schools that have offered me include Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Maryland, Miami, Northwestern, and Stanford," said Eubanks.

The Irish have not offered Eubanks, and he makes it clear that Notre Dame is a school he's hoping to receive an offer from.

"Definitely," said Eubanks when asked if he's interested in Notre Dame. "Going into whole process I always have had an interest in Notre Dame, academically and in their football program. Growing up, besides the Golden Gophers, I was interested in Notre Dame."

What does Eubanks like about Notre Dame? "The whole package; the tradition, Ty Willingham, my position coach, John McDonell, academics, the school in general," he said.

Eubanks recently attended Notre Dame camp to see if he could earn an offer. Eubanks left the Irish camp without an offer, and we asked Raphael what the Irish told him after Irish camp.

"I went to ND camp so coaches could see me in person," Eubanks said. "I was there for three days and camp went very well. I did everything I could to show coaches what I could do. I worked really hard at trying to do my best.

"After camp I contacted Coach Mattison and Coach McDonell. They said they were looking for offensive tackles and weren't looking for the guard/center type. They said ability wise I could play at Notre Dame, but they aren't looking for my type/position, but stay patient. If I am better than the four other guys they are looking at, an offer should come. So I am just being patient."

Most schools are recruiting Eubanks as a guard or center. We asked him what college coaches have told him they like about his game.

"Coaches comment on my pulling ability from guard position, I bring players to ground, my quickness and agility, and they are impressed with my foot speed for my size," Eubanks said. "Most coaches see that I am big and still move very well."

Eubanks said he likely won't be making an early decision. He's planning on taking his visits at this point.

"I'm pretty sure its going to happen after the season," Eubanks said when asked when he might decide. "I plan on taking all five visits. I think it will be important for coaches to see me play so they can evaluate me in game situations"

Does Eubanks have a list of top schools at this point? "Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Maryland, Miami, Northwestern, and Stanford are my favorites right now," Eubanks said.

Would an Irish offer land Notre Dame in his list of top schools? "If Notre Dame offered they would go really high on my list," Eubanks said. "The whole package that Notre Dame has would put them very high on my list."

Comments: It's clear Eubanks would like Notre Dame to offer. Any other year and we think he likely would have an offer already. We will check back with Eubanks in September and see if the Irish do offer this talented prospect. Top Stories
