New Jersey Back Names Leader

Running back/cornerback prospect Donald Brown has logged seven official offers so far in this early recruiting season. The 5-11, 190-pound Red Bank, N.J. native is hoping to improve on his junior season where he rushed 1,115 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Irish are recruiting Brown and we spoke to the top prospect to get the latest on his recruiting.

Donald Brown says he's been busy the last two weeks getting prepared for his senior season.

"Today was our last two-a-day so I'm happy to have that behind me," Brown said. "I'm 100 percent healthy with no injuries so hopefully I'll have a good season."

Brown also thinks his team should have a better season.

"We are looking pretty good," Brown said of his Red Bank Catholic team. "I think we should have a better year than the last couple of years. Hopefully we'll have a good season."

Recruiting is also about to heat up for Brown. So far, Brown has seven official offers and a number of schools that continue to recruit him.

"Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska, Iowa, Temple, Toledo and U. Conn have offered me so far," Brown said. "I've been keeping in contact with most of them. I'm also keeping in touch with Notre Dame and Virginia as well."

Brown attended Notre Dame's football camp in June and came away impressed with the Irish.

"I liked it there," Brown said of Notre Dame. "I liked the tradition there and the coaching staff. I really liked the campus and the tradition there. I had a good time."

We asked Brown what the Irish coaches told him about which position they were recruiting him to play.

"I don't really know for sure," Brown said. "They told me they were going to sit down as a staff and decide where they wanted to recruit me. They said they would go from there as far as a scholarship goes."

Brown says he'd prefer to stay on the offensive side of the ball.

"I'd like to play running back, but I'll play anywhere they want me to play. I would prefer to playing running back," Brown said.

The New Jersey native says he'll likely take most of his official visits after his senior season.

"I do have one bye week on October 30th and Wisconsin also has a bye week that weekend," Brown said. "I'm thinking about taking a visit to Wisconsin that weekend. I'll probably take the rest of my visits after my season."

As of now, Brown says he has his list down to seven top schools.

"I'd say Iowa, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Virginia and U. Conn are my top schools."

Brown also visited Iowa earlier in this month and lists the Hawkeyes as his top school at this point.

"I visited there earlier this month," Brown said of Iowa City. "I liked it there a lot. I loved the coaching staff and their facilities. The academics are good and their program is on a high right now. I'd say they are my leader right now."

Comments: The Irish have yet to offer Brown and we're not sure where they like him the best at this point. We did hear he impressed at Notre Dame's camp. We'll check back in late September to see if Notre Dame takes a more active approach with Brown once the coaches can start calling again.
