Wide receiver D.J. Hord's Kansas City Rochurst team has kicked off their season with a rough start.
"We lost our first game," Hord said. "We played Blue Springs. They're our rival. We lost 29-9. I had 3 catches for 89 yards. It was a rough loss."
Rockhurt is known as one of the top programs in the country and usually travels quite a bit during their season playing many of the top schools in the country. Hord says the schedule is pretty light this year.
"The furthest we go this year is Columbia, Mo. Last year we played in Chicago, L.A., and Dallas. It's pretty fun to travel, but I'm kind of glad we're not playing a bunch of those games. Hopefully we'll have a good season. When you play for a team like Rockhurst, everyone is gunning for you."
Recruiting has been heating up for Hord and the star wide receiver says he never thought he'd be in this position.
"Right now I have 12 offers," said Hord. "Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, LSU, Notre Dame and Nebraska. I have two more, I just can't remember them right now.
"I never thought I'd get this many offers. When I got my first, I was happy because I knew I didn't have to worry about it anymore. But, the offers kept coming. I have a lot of opportunities to consider.
Hord says he's hoping to narrow his list down very soon.
"I'm hoping to narrow my list down in the next two or three weeks. I haven't set any official visits yet. I've talked to almost all of the schools that have offered me. It's getting kind of hectic."
The Irish have offered Hord and he says he's interested in Notre Dame.
"I like Notre Dame. I like the offense they run. They're getting the ball to the wide receivers more. I really like coach Willingham and they have excellent academic tradition."
Hord says he'll be narrowing his list in the next two to three weeks. We asked Hord if the Irish were likely to make his final five.
"Yeah, they're definitely in the running," Hord said.
Comments: Hord is the very type of kid that Notre Dame recruits every year. He's very bright and articulate. The Irish should make the final cut of five, but we couldn't say where they might sit on his list of favorites.
