Smith Enjoying Solid Senior Season

Edmond, Ok. athlete Reggie Smith is having a solid senior season. The 6-0, 192-pound athlete can play a number of positions on the football field, and has been seeing time at running back, wide receiver and free safety for his Santa Fe high school team. We spoke with Smith to get the latest on his senior season and recruiting. Are the Irish still in the mix for Smith?

Reggie Smith is one of the more impressive players you'll see on film this season. The talented athlete can play a number of positions and excels at all of them. We asked Smith how his senior season has been going so far this year.

"Our team is 2-1 right now," said Smith. "I don't really know my stats. I have five touchdowns so far. That's all I really know. I've been playing wide receiver, running back and free safety."

The Oklahoma native said that recruiting is also starting to heat up for him.

"I haven't set any official visits yet," said Smith. "I should be doing that soon. I haven't really begun to narrow down my list year. I'm still looking at the teams that have offered me."

Those that have offered are pretty much the top schools in the country--Oklahoma, USC, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Kansas State and so on.

We asked Smith if he's still interested in Notre Dame at this point.

"Yeah, I talked to coach Preston last week," Smith said. "We talked about their big win against Michigan and how they were preparing for their game the next weekend. I'm still interested in Notre Dame."

The speculation has been that Smith will likely choose one of the in-state schools when all is said and done. We asked him his thoughts on those rumors.

"I've heard so many rumors about that," Smith said. "I'm not saying that. I'm going to see what I want to do. I'll take my visits and see where I fit in best. I don't have any problem leaving the state if I find a school that fits me best."

Smith's athletic talents are impressive and he can play a number of positions. We asked Smith where he would like to play in college.

"I'd probably say safety or corner," Smith said. "Most schools are recruiting me for defense. Some are recruiting me for wide receiver. I like defense, but I also like offense so we'll see what happens."

Smith says he plans to narrow his list down soon and set some official visits.

"I should start setting my visits in the next couple of weeks," said Smith. "I'll try to narrow my list down and get them set up. I might try to take one or two during the season to catch a few games. The rest will come after my season."

College football has also been on Smith's mind lately, and he says he's been watching a lot of football on Saturdays.

"I've tried to watch all the teams I like--the Sooners, Tennessee, Notre Dame, USC, LSU. I watch their defensive backs and how they play. I'm checking out the depth charts to see if there is some opportunity there for me."

We asked Smith if playing time would be a major factor in his decision.

"I don't know if it will be a major factor," Smith said. "I do want to play early, but I don't think I have to play right away. In one or two years would be great. I don't want to sit for three years though."

Comments: The Irish appear to be in the mix for Smith, but we feel the Sooners will be tough to beat. He does mention Notre Dame often, however, so we feel they have a shot to land at least a visit. We'll check back soon and see if he's set up a visit to Notre Dame. Top Stories
