Wells Narrowing Down List

Jacksonsville, Fla. running back Maurice Wells is off to a fast start with his senior season. The 5-9, 180-pound speedster has started to narrow down his list of schools to visit. Wells already has one visits set. Will the Irish get a visit from Wells? What did he have to say about Notre Dame?

Maurice Wells has picked up where he left off from last year in carrying the football.

"Our team is 2-0 right now," said Wells of his Sandalwood high school team. "A game got canceled because of the hurricane. I have 66 carries for 448 yards and 3 touchdowns."

That's 33 carries a game, we asked Wells if he gets tired carrying the ball that much.

"No, not at all," he said. "It's pretty much the same as last year. I like getting the ball."

The talented tailback says he's also starting to set up his official visits.

"I have a visit scheduled for USC on October 9th," Wells said. "I know I'm going to visit Ohio State and Maryland. I'm also going to visit Georgia Tech and Notre Dame. I think those will be my five visits."

Wells says he plans to visit South Bend and has already spoken with Irish head coach Tyrone Willingham a number of times.

"I'm definitely going to visit Notre Dame," said Wells. "I've spoken with them a bunch of times. I've talked to coach Willingham a couple fo times. They've been playing well. They got the big win against Michigan and I think they won last week as well."

We asked Wells when he plans to set his official visits.

"I'd say I'll start to do that real soon," Wells said. "My dad will probably get in touch with them through e-mail and try to set them up."

Wells also said that he hasn't narrowed his list down to those five schools at this point.

"I'm still considering Florida and Florida State," said Wells. "I probably won't take an official visit there because I can go there any time. I'm still considering them. I'm still considering a number of schools right now."

Scheduling the official visits will also allow Wells some free time.

"I don't want to waste the time of any coaches that I'm not considering," said Wells when asked if he was trying to limit the phone calls by scheduling his visits. "I also don't want to waste my time. I'm pretty busy with school and football."

Expect the visits to happen during the season according to Wells because he also knows when he plans to announce.

"I'll take some visits during the season," he said. "I'm planning on announcing at the Army All-Star game."

Comments: It sounds like the Irish will get an official visit. That is very good news for Notre Dame. Wells seems pretty open at this point and not really leaning toward any one school. We'll check back soon and see if Wells schedules a visit with the Irish.
