Stewart Rolling in Early Season

Olympia, Wash. running back Jonathan Stewart has been punshing defenses for many years. The 5-10, 220-pound Stewart is also punshing defenses this season with three games under his belt. Irish Eyes spoke to this top target to get his thoughts on recruiting and his season so far. Is Stewart still interested in Notre Dame? What did he have to say about the Irish?

Jonathan Stewart has pounded three defenses already this season with his punishing running style and determination.

"Our team is 3-0 right now. I have 600 yards and 10 touchdowns," Stewart said.

Stewart has also seen recruiting start to heat up for him in the last few weeks.

"I received offers from Florida and Tennessee last week," said Stewart. "I have 11 offers so far."

Stewart also said he's taken in a college football game already this season.

"I went to (Washington State) for a game," the high school senior said. "I like it there. It's a good college town. They have people-friendly coaches. I like it there."

Stewart says he hasn't begun to narrow his list or set any official visits just yet.

"I think I'll do that towards the end of my season," he said. "I haven't started thinking about that too much yet."

The Irish are still actively recruiting Stewart according to the Washington native.

"I just talked to them," he said. "They've been talking about me going to their school. I haven't been offered by them though.

"I'm still interested in Notre Dame. I'd say all my interest would be medium in all schools right now."

We asked Stewart if he had a top 6-7 schools right now.

"I'd say Washington State, Oregon, Cal, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Tennessee are probably the top schools," Stewart said.

"I'll probably take all five of my visits so sometime after that," Stewart said when asked when he might decide.

Comments: The Irish remain in the hunt for this top prospect. They'll need to offer soon to stay in the race. We think Washington State will be tough to beat in the end.
