Linebacker Demetri Stewart is off to a solid start with his senior season.
"Our team is 2-1 right now," said Stewart. "We haven't lost a district game yet. We did lose a game. I think we came in too confident. We kind of got a wake up call. It shows we have a lot of work to do."
The Oakland Park, Fla. native says he only has his stats from his first two games of the season.
"I had 15 tackles and two forced fumbles in the first game, and I had 12 tackles and a sack in the second game," Stewart said.
The star linebacker says he's starting to think about his official visits and has already taken one to Oklahoma earlier this season.
"I liked it a lot at Oklahoma," Stewart said. "I liked how it was a football state. I liked the game atmosphere, the people and the players. I thought I fit in well there."
Stewart is also starting to set up the rest of his official visits.
"I have one set for Miami on December 10th through the 12th," Stewart said. "I know I'll take one to Notre Dame. I'm thinking about Auburn, LSU and Ohio State for the last two, but I really haven't thought real hard about it yet."
The Irish remain high on Stewart's list."I like the coaches and how they run their program," Stewart said of Notre Dame. "I really like their program.
"I've talked to coach Willingham on the phone and I think he's a great coach. He's a people person and I think he interacts well with his players. I also talk to coach Miles on the phone all the time. I like Notre Dame quite a bit."
But Miami has been the clear leader since the beginning.
"Miami is in the lead," Stewart admitted. "They've been recruiting me the longest. I went to camp there. I've probably been there three or four times. I feel real comfortable there and real comfortable with their coaching staff."
We asked Stewart what he'd be looking for in a college when he makes his final decision.
"I'm looking for a chance to play early," he said. "I guess feeling comfortable with the coaches and the players. The atmopshere and the education will also be real important."
A decision could be coming sooner than many people think.
"I don't really know when I plan to announce," Stewart said. "I'll know when I know and then I'll announce. I've been thinking about enrolling early and going through spring practice so I might be announcing sooner than I thought."
Comments: The dreaded enrolling early... We all know if Stewart enrolls early the Irish are out of the race. We do believe Miami would be difficult to beat in this race, but he does seem to have a real fondness for Notre Dame. If he's enrolling early, it likely won't matter. We'll check back soon and see if the Irish land a visit from Stewart.
