Washington, D.C. native James McDonald has seen his Dunbar high school team struggle in the early going of his senior season.
"We're 1-2 right now so it's not going real well," said McDonald. "I'm having a pretty good year. I have 16 catches for 377 yards and four touchdowns so far."
The talented wide receiver has also set up his first official visit.
"I've set up an official visit for Notre Dame on January 15th," McDonald said. "I've also discussed it with a few other schools and I'll be setting visits with them soon."
We asked McDonald to elaborate on the other schools.
"Penn State and Pittsburgh are the other two schools I've been talking to about a visit," he said.
As for his final two visits, McDonald says he's unsure what he'll do at the present time.
"I'll probaby visit Boston College and Utah, but I've also been thinking about a bunch of schools for visits," McDonald said. "North Carolina State, UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin are some of the other schools I'm considering."
The Irish continue to recruit McDonald heavily, and he says he talks with the Irish coaches frequently.
"I've actually got to meet coach Diedrick in person," McDonald said. "He came out and timed me. He calls me every week and we talk about the offense and how they're doing.
"I haven't been able to watch them much. I caught some of the Michigan game. We play a lot of our games on Saturdays so I only get to see the highlights. They look pretty good right now."
McDonald says he plans to take most of his visits after the season, but a decision could come at any time.
"I'll set them up to take my visits after my season," he said. "The only visit I might make during the season is to Pitt in December. I don't know when I'll decide--probably after my visits. If I'm overwhelmed at a school and it feels right, I'd probably commit right there."
We asked McDonald what he was looking for in a school when he makes his final decision.
"I'd like to find an offense that wants to make me one of their main weapons on offense," McDonald said. "I want to find a coaching staff that can develop me as a football player, but also make me a better person so that will be important."
Comments: McDonald appears to be high on the Irish at this point. We do believe that a number of schools also have his interest at this point as well. He's having a great senior season, and I've always liked his film and they way he attacks the ball. Someone is going to land a talented receiver when he signs. Here is McDonald's film to take another look.
