Running back Montario Hardesty is off to a fast start in his senior season.
"Our team is 5-0 right now. We're ranked No. 2 in the state," Hardesty said. "I have a little over 700 yards rushing and eight touchdowns. I also have around 200 yards receiving."
The talented running back has also taken his first official visit.
"I went to Nebraska last week," Hardesty said. "It was nice. I liked the coaches there. They were real straight forward.
"I also liked their system they are running there. The atmosphere was great. They fans got into the game. It seemed like I fit in there well."
Besides Nebraska, Hardesty says he hasn't set any other official visits at this time.
"I haven't set any others yet," he said. "I'll probably do that in the next two to three weeks. I don't think I'll take any more during my season. I'll probably have to take them after my season. I don't want it to get in the way of my season."
We asked Hardesty which other schools he was thinking about visiting on his offical visits.
"I'd say Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina State and Ohio State," Hardesty said.
The Irish remain in the hunt and have been aggressively recruiting Hardesty.
"I talk to them quite a bit," he said of the Irish. "I'd say it's very likely I'll visit Notre Dame. I'm pretty sure I will. I talk to coach Diedrick all the time. We talk about how I fit in their offense. I like how the back gets the ball in their offense."
The New Bern, N.C. native says he's not certain when he'll make his final decision.
"I don't know if I'll take all my visits," he said.
"I might decide if I find a school I like. I might just commit."
Comments: The Irish appear likely to get a visit, but we don't think Notre Dame is one of his very top schools at this point. We think North Carolina State and Nebraska might be the two to beat at this point. We'll check back with Montario in a few weeks and see if he's set his official visits.
