Doering Sets Three Visits

Barrington, Ill. offensive lineman Dan Doering has scheduled three of his official visits so far. The offensive tackle prospect also recently returned from a unofficial visit to Iowa to watch the Hawkeyes defeat Ohio State last weekend. We caught up with Doering to get the latest in recruiting.

Dan Doering recently returned from another unofficial visit to Iowa.

"It was fun. It was my second time going to a game there. It's a great atmosphere," said Doering. "I hung out with Jake (Christensen) and Dace (Richardson). I've got a good relationship with Jake. We have a lot in common. I talk to him a lot."

Doering has taken a number of unofficial visits to Iowa in the past and rumors have Doering favoring Iowa at this point. We wasked Doering if he was leaning towards Iowa at this point.

"A lot of people say that. I'm still looking around," he said. "I'm really trying to find the school that fits me best. These people really don't know what's going through my head. I have a top three and those three are pretty much equal."

The Barrington, Ill. native has already scheduled visits to his top three schools.

"I'm visiting Notre Dame December 3rd, Iowa December 10th and Nebraska December 17th," Doering said. "I'm looking at Ohio State, Miami, Oklahoma and Tennessee for my last two visits."

We asked Doering if his relationship with Christensen would be an advantage for Iowa.

"I'd say it probably is," he said. "I talk to Jake quite a bit. We're good friends. But that doesn't mean that I'm going there."

We also asked Doering if he was done taking unofficial visits this year.

"I probably am," Doering said. "We have the playoffs coming up and my coach doesn't want me to take any more during that time. I might take another one depending on what happens with our season."

There have also been speculation that Doering might announce his decision at the Army All-American Bowl this year.

"They basically said if you were ready to do it, we could," he said. "You don't have to announce if you aren't ready to do it. If I'm ready to make my decision then, I probably will."

Comments: Doering says nobody leads at this point so we'll have to take his word for that. We do think it's pretty telling that he's taken so many unofficial visits to Iowa. Many think Notre Dame is at least No. 2 on his list. There is a lot of time left before Doering decides so a lot can change. This should be an interesting race that goes down to the wire.
