Lorig Focusing on Four

Defensive lineman Erik Lorig is having a fine season for his Palos Verdes Peninsula high school team. The 6-4, 250-pound Rolling Hills, Calif. native is also narrowing down his list of favorite schools. WIll the Irish make the cut for Lorig?

Defensive lineman Erik Lorig is off to a good start with his senior season.

"We're 6-0 right now and we're playing really well," Lorig said. "I have three interceptions, four or five sacks and about 60 tackles on defense. I think I have 17 catches for about 290 yards and two or three touchdowns."

The two-way player has also started to narrow down his list of favorites.

"Right now I'm looking at USC, Cal, Stanford and UCLA for visits," Lorig said. "I'm pretty sure I'll visit those four. If I have time I might take a fifth visit."

Lorig says he hasn't set any of his official visits at this point.

"I'm not in a real hurry to do that," he said. "I'm waiting until after my season to take my visits. I'll set them up sometime soon."

The Irish appear to be out of the mix for Lorig at this point.

"I wouldn't say I'm not interested, but they kind of stopped recruiting me," Lorig said of his interest in Notre Dame. "I still get mail from them. I just haven't heard from them in a long time. I'm not sure why."

At this point, Lorig says he's pretty open with his top four schools.

"I really don't have a favorite right now. I'm pretty open to any of them," he said. "I plan on taking all my visits, but if one jumped out to me, I might just commit."

Comments: The Irish appear out of the race. Lorig hasn't been mentioning Notre Dame the last few months and that might be the reason the Irish stopped calling. He seemed surprised Notre Dame stopped calling, however, but I assume some reciprocal interest might've continued their efforts. Regardless, it appears we can cross him off the list.
