Wells Sets Four of Five

Jacksonvilled, Fla. running back Maurice Wells is having a solid season even though he had to sit out a few games. The 5-10, 180-pound speedster has also begun setting up his official visits. Four have been set already. Will Wells be visiting Notre Dame?

Running back Maurice Wells is having an impressive senior season.

"I have over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns so far this year," said Wells. "I've only played in five games so far because I was injured."

Wells has also set up most of his official visits already.

"I already took an official visit to USC," Wells said. "I'm going to Maryland this weekend. I have Ohio State November 20th and I've scheduled Georgia Tech for December 17th."

We asked Wells which teams were fighting for the last visit.

"I'd say Notre Dame, North Carolina, maybe Florida State or LSU," he said.

Wells had previously told us that he had planned to visit Notre Dame for sure. We asked if that had changed at this point.

"I'll probably take my last visit to Notre Dame," Wells said. "I know we've talked about setting one up with Notre Dame. It will most likely be Notre Dame. My dad sets up the visits and he'll probably set one up with them."

We asked Wells if he's been speaking with Notre Dame on a regular basis, and if they've tried to set up an official visit.

"I talk to them. I talk to coach Wilks every week," he said. "I've also spoken with coach Willingham. We've talked about a visit and setting one up. We just haven't done that yet."

We asked Wells when he'd set his last visit, and when he might make his final decision.

"I really don't know when I'll set my final visit," he said. "I really have no idea when I'll decide. I guess whenever I figure out what school I like the most. I plan to take my visits and then try to decide."

Comments: The Irish are hanging on by a thread with Wells. While we never count out Notre Dame if the Irish can get a player on campus, we don't feel the Irish have much of a chance of signing this talented player. Anything can change, but the Irish have to land a visit first. We'll check back next week to see if Wells has scheduled a visit to Notre Dame.
