Offensive lineman Dave McClain has finished his senior season, and now he's focused on finding the right school.
"Our team finished 1-9 this year," McClain said. "It's a brand new high school and we still didn't know if the school was going to open in time during our fall camp. I had a good year, but the team didn't have a very good year."
McClain says he now plans to visit a bunch of schools in a very short period of time.
"I have on official visit set for Purdue on December 3rd," McClain said. "We are going to go to Virginia Tech for an unofficial visit on November 18th. Then we're heading to LSU on November 20th. I'll probably then go to places like Georgia and Georgia Tech, and then I plan to head up to Notre Dame around Thanksgiving. These are all unofficial visits besides Purdue."
There might be a problem with Notre Dame, however.
"I'm graduating in January," said McClain. "I want to enroll early and go through spring ball. That will probably play a big part in my decision. Some schools don't allow you to do that, but most do."
One of those schools is Notre Dame, but McClain said he wouldn't rule out Notre Dame.
"I'm taking an unofficial visit out there over Thanksgiving," McClain said. "It's Notre Dame. If I fall in love with Notre Dame, then that's the schools for me. (Graduating early) won't take them out of the picture if that's the best school for me."
McClain says he hasn't quite decided where he'll make his official visits at this point.
"I'll probably set them up after I take my unofficial visits," he said. "Some schools want to take a look at me before offering. I don't want to take an official visit if I haven't been offered by that school. I don't know if I'll take all five visits because it might be hard to get five in before I graduate. I'm going try."
Comments: It sounds like McClain is leaning strongly to enrolling early into college. He did seem to have a real interest in Notre Dame, however. I don't think we'll know much until after his unofficial to Notre Dame. We'll follow up shortly after he takes his unofficial visits to see where Notre Dame stands.
