Waconia, Minn. tight end prospect Joey Hiben has had a change of heart, switching his verbal commitment from Purdue to Notre Dame. We just spoke to Hiben to find out why he had a change of heart.

Tight end Joey Hiben has had a change of heart and switched his verbal commitment from Purdue to Notre Dame.

"I talked to them last night and committed to Notre Dame," said Hiben. "I talked to both Purdue and Notre Dame and I made the switch."

We asked Hiben why he changed his mind.

"Ever since I committed I wasn't sure of my decision," said Hiben. "One thing is I liked architecture and I couldn't major in that at Purdue, but I could with Notre Dame.

"I liked everything about Purdue, but I just didn't feel I'd be getting the most out of my college experience there, and I would at Notre Dame.

"I've talked to some Notre Dame players and some former players and you can really sense the pride they have for Notre Dame. I figured it had to be something to do with the school and they were doing something right. I just wanted to be a part of that."

Is Hiben sold on Notre Dame?

"Yeah, I'm 100 percent sold," said Hiben. "It just feels right to me. I've gotten to know some of their players and I just felt like I fit in with them."

Hiben said he had a rough senior season as his team struggled to find themselves.

"Our team finished 2-7 so it was a rough season," Hiben admitted. "I played a little running back. I had 20 carries for 225 yards. I only caught eight passes this year for 170 yards. I think I had four touchdowns. I averaged nine tackles a game at defensive end and had three sacks. I also punted and averaged 42 yards per kick."

The 6-4, 232-pound Hiben also mentioned that he'd be taking his official visit to Notre Dame on December 3rd.
