Compton Set For Unofficial Visit

Humble, Texas offensive lineman Tyler Compton is a new name for the Irish. At 6-5, 275 pounds, Compton has the frame to be an offensive tackle. Compton plans to take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame this weekend when the Irish take on Pitt. We spoke with Compton on Thursday to find out about this new prospect.

Tyler Compton is being recruited by a number of schools, and all are recruiting as an offensive lineman.

"I have offers from Georgia Tech, Northwestern, Utah, Oklahoma State and Syracuse," said Compton. "I only play offense so all the schools are recruiting me to play offensive tackle."

Compton says he's narrowed his list to just four schools at this point.

"Georgia Tech, Utah, Notre Dame and Northwestern are the four I'm still considering," he said.

The Humble, Texas native has already been on one official visit to Northwestern, and also plans to visit Notre Dame for the second time on Saturday.

"I've been to Northerwestern. I'm actually going to Notre Dame this weekend. I leave tomorrow," said Compton. "I went to camps at Notre Dame, Northwestern and Texas."

We asked Compton where the Irish stood on his list.

"They're one of my top schools," he said. "They haven't offered yet so we'll see what happens.

"I've only met the offensive line coaches there. I really liked them. I thought they were real cool guys. I like Notre Dame's tradition a lot."

Compton says he'd like to have his decision made fairly soon.

"I plan to set up my official visits very soon," Compton said. "I want to get my decision made sometime in Decemeber."

Comments: If the Irish want a shot at Compton, they'll have to offer him soon. We'll check back with Compton after this weekend to see how his unofficial went. Top Stories
