Running back Steve Slaton has led his Conwell Egan Catholic high school team into the playoffs.
"We're 9-2 right now and we're still in the playoffs," said Slaton. "I have around 1,400 yards and 24 touchdowns."
The 5-10, 185-pound speedster was committed to Maryland, but is no longer committed to the Terps and is looking at a number of schools.
"I have one visit set for West Virginia on December 10th," Slaton said. "I haven't set any others at this point.
A number of schools have been calling the Fairless Hills, Pa. star on a regular basis.
"Boston College, Minnesota, Ohio State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Rutgers are calling me on a weekly basis," he said.
Slaton also says he's interested in Notre Dame and is waiting to hear back from them.
"I haven't talked to Notre Dame," Slaton said. "I called them, but I haven't talked to anyone yet. I've been trying to reach them. I'm definitely interested in Notre Dame."
We asked Slaton what about Notre Dame interests him.
"I've been going to Catholic school my whole life. They have a winning tradition there and I've always watched them on TV--ever since I was a little kid. I've always liked Notre Dame."
Besides West Virginia, we asked Slaton if he knew of any other schools he'd be visiting at this point.
"Not really. I'm pretty open on that," Slaton said. "I'll set them up pretty soon. I plan on taking all five of my visits."
We also asked Slaton about his academic situation.
"I'm not sure what my core is," he said. "I do know that I should be NCAA qualified. I scored a 920 on the SAT and I plan on taking it again on December 4th."
Comments: Slaton is gifted runner. Check out his film on his profile. He seems to be wide open at this point and not favoring any one particular team. We'll check back in a few weeks and see if the Irish have made contact with Slaton.
