Wilson Remains Open

Akron defensive end Lawrence Wilson had been committed to Notre Dame before the firing of Irish head coach Tyrone Willingham. The 6-5, 240-pound defensive end has reopened his recruitment since the announcement of Willingham's termination. We spoke with Wilson on Monday to get the latest with his recruitment.

Defensive end Lawrence Wilson says he's been working on setting up an official visit with another BIG 10 school.

"I've been talking to Michigan about a visit," said Wilson. "We haven't finalized a date yet. It should be some time in January."

Wilson also took an unofficial visit this past weekend.

"I went to Ohio State this past weekend," he said. "I just went there for an unofficial visit to talk to the coaches."

We asked Wilson if he was talking to other schools at this point.

"I'm still interested in Pittsburgh," said Wilson. "Purdue has been calling me as well. I don't know what I'll do."

Wilson said he hasn't crossed off the Irish at this point.

"I haven't eliminated Notre Dame," he said. "I'm not counting Notre Dame out yet. I'm still upset about what they did, but I'm going to wait and see what happens and talk to their new coaching staff. I still like Notre Dame and I could end up there."

We asked Wilson if he planned to wait to make his final decision.

"I plan to take a visit to Michigan and then we'll see. I might take another visit. I don't know," said Wilson.

Comments: Wilson remains open and plans to wait awhile before making his decision. The Irish should have a shot if they hire a new coach fairly soon.
