Schwapp Likes What he Hears

Hartford, Conn. fullback prospect Asaph Schwapp never wavered on his commitment to Notre Dame. But the 6-0, 240-pound Schwapp said he can now rest easy after his first conversation with new Irish head coach Charlie Weis. Schwapp said he heard the one thing he needed to hear to feel comfortable with his commitment to Notre Dame.

"He called me last night," said Asaph Schwapp of his conversation with Weis. "It went pretty good. I liked talking to him."

We asked Asaph what he asked coach Weis about when he spoke with him.

"I asked him what type of offense he was going to run," said Schwapp. "He said he'll run an offense built around the talent he has. He said he really tries to build his offense on what his personnel can do well. That's what I wanted to hear. I really liked hearing that."

Schwapp also said Weis called to tell him something.

"He told me that he was still really interested in me and he wanted to call me and tell me that," Schwapp said. "That felt pretty good."

So what was Schwapp's first impression of Weis?

"He seemed like a pretty good guy. Real down to earth," said Schwapp. "I really liked what he had to say."

The Irish are also trying to reschedule his official visit.

"They said sometime in January on that," Schwapp said of his visit. "We haven't finalized that. They said they'd call me back on that soon." Top Stories
