Hand Still Planning on Irish Visit

Philadelphia, Pa. defensive lineman Darrell Hand has already taken two of his official visits. The 6-4, 305-pound Hand also has a visit scheduled for this weekend. The Irish remain in the hunt for Hand, and the top defensive tackle prospect recently spoke with Irish head coach Charlie Weis. What did Hand think of Weis?

Defensive line prospect Derrell Hand said he enjoyed his recent visit to Wisconsin.

"I liked it there a lot," said Hand of Wisconsin. "I liked the night life there. The guys were really cool. I thought I fit in well there with the players. It was a good visit."

Hand has also visited Michigan State and we asked Hand which visit he liked better.

"I thought they were both about the same," said Hand. "I liked both coaching staffs and felt I got along with both sets of players pretty well. They were both pretty similar and I don't really think one stood out over the other."

The Philadelphia, Pa. native says he had planned on visiting Miami this weekend, but he's not sure if that visit will happen.

"I was supposed to go to Miami this weekend but my coach hasn't heard from them," said Hand. "We've tried to contact them, but they must be too busy. I don't know what's going to happen there."

Irish coach Charlie Weis has also spoken with Hand recently and made a positive impression.

"We had a long conversation and I really liked him a lot," said Hand of Weis. "I liked how he talked about how aggressive he's going to be and he wants his team to be. I'm thinking Notre Dame is going to be pretty dominant when he gets settled in there."

Hand also says he's still solid with his visit at Notre Dame.

"I'm still set for January 15," said Hand. "We talked about that and I'm set for that date."

Where do the Irish stand with Hand?

"I'd say they're in third place right now," said Hand. "Just because I haven't visited there yet and I don't know enough about their staff yet. I'm looking forward to getting to know them more."

Comments: Hand has always had the Irish near the top of his list and we expect him to wait and visit Notre Dame before making his final decision. We think the Irish should have a good shot to land him if they go after him hard.
