Defensive lineman Patrick Kuntz said he was all set to make his final decision.
"I've made official visit to Michigan State, Louisville and Duke," said Kuntz. "I was planning on making my announcement the next day between Michigan State and Louisville and coach Weis called. I hadn't made up my mind yet, and he called and kind of opened everything back up again."
Irish coach Charlie Weis made a big impression on the Indianapolis native.
"I really liked what coach Weis had to say," said Kuntz. "I just like his attitude about things. He's a rough and tough guy, but can also be easy-going and sociable. He's a great guy to talk to."
The Irish offer also came as a big surprise for Kuntz.
"I was really shocked by it," said Kuntz. "The old coaching staff hadn't been recruiting me for awhile so it was a shock when he called. We were all surprised by it."
Kuntz says he plans to visit Notre Dame very soon.
"I'm going to visit there on Janury 7th," Kuntz said. "I'm just going to check it out and see what I think. I'm looking forward to getting to know coach Weis and his new coaching staff a lot more."
When can we expect a Kuntz decision?
"I'm not sure," he said. "Probably around the 17th of January. I want to think about it for awhile. I might also make my announcement at school so sometime around then."
Is any one school leading for Kuntz at this point?
"No, I'd say they're all dead even between Michigan State, Louisville and Notre Dame," he said.
Comments: The Irish appear to in good shape with Kuntz. He seems to be very interested in Notre Dame at this point. We should know more after his official visit to Notre Dame.
