A New Name?

Houston, Texas running back R.J. Jackson hasn't been on the radar as an Irish recruit, but we've heard he might be now. We spoke with the 6-0, 190-pound Jackson on Tuesday night to see if the Irish have been in touch with Jackson.

Houston, Texas running back R.J. Jackson appears to be a new target for the Irish.

"I've already taken official visits to LSU and Oklahoma State," Jackson said. "I have a visit scheduled for Florida on January 28th. I know I'll take one on the 21st. I'm just not sure who that will be yet."

We asked Jackson what schools he was considering at this point.

"Oklahoma State, LSU, Florida, TCU and Texas right now," Jackson said.

We also asked if any new teams have entered the race.

"Yeah, Notre Dame has come into the mix," Jackson said. "They just hired coach Haywood and he came by my school today."

Jackson says he has a good relationship with new Irish offensive coordinator Mike Haywood.

"I know coach Haywood really well," Jackson said. "He grew up down here, and I knew him from Texas. He was the running backs coach there so I know him really well. I feel really comfortable with him. I like him a lot."

So much so that Jackson says he's strongly considering Notre Dame for a visit.

"I don't know much about Notre Dame," Jackson said. "Coach Haywood said he'd send me some information right away. He and I talked about setting up a visit there. We're trying to work that out right now. I'm thinking about taking a visit there."

Comments: Jackson seemed to have a real fondness for Haywood. He's a full qualifier as well so academics shouldn't be a problem. He's a top back that would certainly be a nice addition. We'll add a link to Jackson's highlight video below.
