Is Smith Still Interested in Irish?

Ada, Okla. is home to star athlete Reggie Smith. The 6-1. 200-pound two-way player has a host of schools recruiting him including Notre Dame. With two visits remaining, we asked Smith if the Irish are still on his radar. Do the Irish still have a shot at Smith?

Oklahoma athlete Reggie Smith still remains pretty wide open at this point.

"I've have two visits left," Smith said. "I'm not really sure what I plan to do yet."

Smith has heard from Irish coach Charlie Weis, and says he's not sure what he plans to do with Notre Dame at this point.

"I talked to coach Weis once," Smith said. "I told him I would look into visiting. I haven't really decided what I want to do."

We asked Smith if he's had any contact with Wies or Notre Dame assistant coaches since then.

"No, I know they've called me a few times but I keep missing them," Smith said.

Does Smith still have any interest in Notre Dame at this point?

"I still have a little interest, but I'm not sure what they plan to do," Smith said. "I haven't talked to them much since coach Weis was hired."

Which schools are still in the running for the five-star prospect?

"Oklahoma, USC, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, (Texas) A&M, Penn State, Arkansas and maybe Notre Dame."

We asked Smith when he plans to schedule his final two visits.

"I'm going to do that sometime after the All-American game," Smith said.

Any chance he might commit while at the game?

"No, I won't do that," he said.

Comments: Smith confirmed to Irish Eyes that A&M, Arkansas, Penn State and Notre Dame will battle for his final two official visits. He also confirmed in a second conversation with Irish Eyes later that evening that he talked to Notre Dame after our inital call on Wednesday, and that he was setting up and in-home visit with Notre Dame once he returned from the Army All-American game.
