Hiben Excited About His Decision

Waconia, Minn. tight end Joey Hiben recently visited Notre Dame for his official visit. The 6-4, 240-pound Hiben has never wavered in his commitment to Notre Dame despite the coaching change, and Hiben said he's glad he never did. What did Hiben think of his official visit to South Bend? What did he have to say about new tight end coach Bernie Parmalee?

Tight end Joey Hiben was hosted by junior tight end Anthony Fasano on his official visit to Notre Dame.

"He's a great guy," Hiben said of Fasano. "I really liked him a lot. I'm really excited to learn from him. He's obviously a great tight end, and he had a great season once he got over his injury. He's got so much talent, and it will be great to learn from him."

The Scout.com four-star prospect also got the chance to meet new Irish head coach Charlie Weis for the first time.

"I'm thrilled I'm going to be working with him," said Hiben of Weis. "Just listening to him to talk makes you want to suit up and play for him right then and there. He said everything I wanted to hear, and he said we're going to win a lot of football games. I really liked hearing that."

Another person Hiben was anxious to meet was new Irish tight end coach Bernie Parmalee.

"He is an excellent guy," Hiben said of Parmalee. "I was really excited when I heard he was going to be named tight end coach. He's kind of a self-made man so you know he knows what hard work is, and what it takes to get to the next level.

"His message was it was going to be a very positive experience working with him. We really didn't get to talk any Xs and Os. We were mainly just getting to know each other. I really enjoyed talking with him. I'm going to really enjoy playing for him."

Earlier in the season Hiben had committed to Purdue, but the Waconia, Minn. native said he's glad he made the switch to Notre Dame.

"I really got along with everyone there," he said. "I really liked the players there, and I think I'm going to fit in really well at Notre Dame. I just feel more comfortable there. I think it was a great decision for me.

"I mainly hung out with Anthony--Brady Quinn, Ryan Harris. We were also hanging out with Rafael Eubanks and trying to get him to come. I hope he does. It just seems like the right fit for me. I'm really excited about it because I think we're going to win a lot of games there."
