McCarthy Receives Offer

Youngstown, Ohio athlete Kyle McCarthy has had a good week. The 6-1, 190-pound defensive back candidate recently received two big offers, and the scheduled two more visits for this week. McCarthy will visit Notre Dame this weekend, and received an offer from Notre Dame on Wednesday. What did McCarthy think of his Irish offer?

Ohio defensive back Kyle McCarthy got some good news on Wednesday.

"Coach Weis called me this morning and offered me a scholarship," McCarthy said. "He told me that I was a Notre Dame guy, and that I belonged there. He said I'd be a good fit for what they plan to do there. I'm really looking forward to my visit now."

We asked McCarthy if Weis told him what position they are recruiting him for.

"He really didn't say," McCarthy said. "I'm pretty sure it's defensive back. Coach Lewis and coach Minter had a in-home visit the other day and that was what they were talking about."

What did McCarthy think of Lewis and Minter?

"I really liked both of them," he said. "Both seemed like great guys and have a lot of experience. Both have head coaching experience, and coach Lewis has NFL experience. It just goes to show the kind of good people they're brining in at Notre Dame."

The last time we spoke with McCarthy he told us he and his whole family are big Irish fans. We asked what he and his family thought of the Irish offer.

"I grew up a Notre Dame fan so I am very excited," he said. "I'm not going to let that be the deciding factor though. I'm just going to take my visit this weekend and see how I fit in there. My family was very excited for me. They were really excited about it."

McCarthy said he should have his final decision made soon.

"I'm going to visit Northwestern on Thursday and Friday. Later on Friday I'm going to Notre Dame, and then I should have my decision sometime shortly after my Notre Dame visit," he said.

Comments: We had said earlier that if the Irish offered McCarthy that they'd be tough to beat. Nothing has changed our opinion on that. We would be surprised if McCarthy chose anyone but Notre Dame. Top Stories
