Notre Dame has fallen short in numbers along the offensive line the previous two recruiting seasons. They will certainly be looking to rectify that problem this season.
One player they appear to be interested in is Curtis Bailey. At 6-7, 350 pounds, Bailey clearly has the size already and will likely be one of the top linemen in Texas this season.
"They're recruiting me as an offensive tackle," said Bailey when asked what position most schools are recruiting him to play. "I think I'm good at both run blocking and pass blocking. I think I do both well. We're more of a running team in high school, but I pass block well."
Johnson says he's already landed his first official offer.
"Texas A&M has offered me," said Bailey. "Texas, Nebraska, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Florida are some of the other schools that are recruiting me."
The Dallas, Texas native also plans to visit a few schools in the near future.
"I already went to (Texas) A&M's junior day," Bailey said. "It was good. They made me feel real comfortable. I'm also scheduled to go to Texas' junior day on the 26th. I'm not sure if I'll go to any more yet."
Growing up in Texas, Bailey said he's always liked the Longhorns, but he's not opposed to leaving the state.
"I grew up a (Texas) fan," he said. "I've been to their camp before, and I've been to Texas A&M's camp. I don't think I'll go to any camps this year. My coach said I don't need to.
"I don't mind leaving the state for school. In fact, I'm thinking about leaving the state to go to school. My mom is nervous because she doesn't want me to leave, but it's kind of like going off on your own and standing on your own two feet."
We asked Bailey what he would be looking for when searching for his school.
"I'll look at schools that have a good law program," Bailey said. "I want to major in law. I also want to play for a good team that can go far. I also want to find a team with just regular guys. I want to make sure I fit in well with the players."
We asked Bailey if he had an interest in Notre Dame at this point.
"Oh yeah," he said. "One of my coaches graduated from Notre Dame. I also had a cousin who went there. They've both been telling me how good it is there. They just said I need to maintain my grades, but I'd love it there. I like challenges. I like high standards. I know they have a new coaching staff there so I don't know much about them yet."
Does Bailey have a list of favorites right now?
"Texas, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Florida, Miami, and (Texas) A&M," Bailey said about his top schools.
Will Bailey make an early decision?
"I think I'm going to take all my visits," he said. "It's an important decision so I want to make sure."
Comments: The Irish appear to be in the race for Bailey. He seems to have a genuine interest in Notre Dame. We still believe Texas will be tough to beat in the end, but Bailey also appears interested in going out on his own. We do believe he'll be a top target for the Irish this year.
