Boone Lands First Offer

Virginia Beach, Va. running back Andre Boone recently received some good news. The 5-10, 190-pound Boone has used his quick feet and speed to elude tacklers for Frank W. Cox high school, and land his first official offer of the recruiting season. Not bad for a guy who wasn't thrilled with the idea of playing football in the beginning.

"I started playing football when I was 10," said running back Andre Boone of his early football memories. "I didn't like it at all. I don't know why. I just didn't like it that much. I was a baseball man.

"Baseball was my sport, but my coach, he also talked me into playing football. I've always been a running back, and I like it quite a bit now."

Boone used his skills and put together an impressive junior season. He's also gathered quite a bite of interest from top schools already.

"I rushed for 1,145 yards and 11 touchdowns last season," Boone said. "I also played some defense early in the season. I played both linebacker and corner."

Boone has parlayed his initial limited interest into a full scholarship and likely many more on the way.

"I have an offer from Wake Forrest," Boone said. "I was real excited to get my first offer. My family was really excited about it. The whole school was excited about it. It's nice getting that first one.

"Notre Dame, Virginia, Boston College, North Carolina, Syracuse, Michigan State, Maryland and Nebraska are some of the others recruiting me."

The Virginia Beach native also recently visited a few of his favorite schools.

"I went to junior days at North Carolina and Virginia," Boone said. "I really liked it at both places. I liked how friendly they were at both schools. They made me feel comfortable there."

With spring practice heating up at many schools, and summer football camps just around the corner, we asked Boone if he planned to visit any of his top schools in the future.

"I'm going to the Nike camp at Penn State, and I'm also going to the Adidas camp at North Carolina State," he said. "I'm also thinking about going to check out Boston College. I'll probably check out a few more, but I'm not sure on that yet."

But Notre Dame is the one school standing out at this point.

"I really like Notre Dame," Boone said when asked about some of his favorites. "I've always wanted to go there. I like what they stand for there. I think I'd fit right in there.

"U.V.A (Virginia), Boston College, North Carolina and Syracuse are the others I'm liking right now."

When will Boone be making a decision?

"I'd like to get it out of the way," Boone said. "I might make an early commitment. That depends on which schools offer."

Comments: Boone said he also runs track and has a best 55 meter time of 6.5. He also plays centerfield for his Frank W. Cox high school team. With a 3.0 in his core, he should have no problem qualifying. Boone seems wide open at this point, but the Irish probably have the early lead. Top Stories
