Walls Up to 16 Offers

Woodland Hills high school in Pittsburgh, Pa. has long produced top athletes for DI coaches. This year's top Woodland Hills prospect is cornerback Darrin Walls. Walls possesses the rare combination of height (6-1) and speed that all college coaches covet, and with 16 offers, Walls will have plenty of schools to choose from.

Corner prospect Darrin Walls is already considered one of the top prospects on the East coast. With offers from teams like Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa, Florida and West Virginia, Walls will have his choice of top schools to consider.

"I have 16 offers right now," Walls said of his suitors. "I went to Penn State's junior day this weekend.

"It was pretty nice there, and I didn't expect it to be. The coaches were really nice there, and they gave us the real facts about Penn State. They didn't try to sugarcoat anything. I appreciated their honesty."

Walls recently received an offer from Notre Dame, and we asked the Pittsburgh native what his reaction was to the Irish offer.

"Before Notre Dame offered, I really had no interest in Notre Dame," Wells said. "My dad is a real big Notre Dame fan so he was really excited when the offer came.

We asked Walls why he hadn't been considering Notre Dame.

"I honestly thought it was a big religious school and that it wouldn't be for me, but that was just me prejudging them," Walls said. "After I did some research, I found out a lot about the school and their new coach, Charlie Weis. I really like the staff they've put together there, and now I know better about the school, and I think it would be a real nice place to go.

"I was really surprised when Notre Dame offered. I didn't think they had any interest in me, but my coach said they were going to offer me.

"One of the things I really like about Notre Dame is their academics. I'm very interested in Notre Dame now that they've offered."

Walls says he's setting up his spring and summer plans with his family, and then will hit the road visiting his top schools.

"I'm going to Miami on April 8th for a practice down there," Walls said. "I'm going to visit more schools, but I don't have them scheduled yet."

Will Walls be visiting Notre Dame sometime soon?

"Yeah, we're definitely going to check out Notre Dame," Walls said. "I don't know when yet, but we're definitely going to go out there."

Comments: The Irish need corners in this class. Walls is the only corner offered that we know of at this point. Obviously this should be considered good news for Irish fans. He's likely the top prospect on Notre Dame's board at the position, and getting him to visit will be important. We'll check back soon with Walls to see when he plans to visit South Bend.
