Ryan Loved Junior Day Visit

St. Ignatius high school in Cleveland, Ohio has a number of DI prospects this year and one of the top players at the tradition-rich school is defensive lineman John Ryan. At 6-5, 240-pounds, Ryan has already landed his first six offers with many more likely on the way. Ryan recently visited Notre Dame's junior day and we spoke with the top prospect about his junior day experience. What did Ryan think of Notre Dame?

It didn't take long for defensive end John Ryan to decide he liked his visit at Notre Dame.

"I loved it," said Ryan of his Irish visit. "It was awesome up there. I felt comfortable there right away. It's a great place."

"The first thing that got me going was this video they showed us. It was about Notre Dame's tradition and what happens on game day. It showed a lot about their history and what happens on game day. It showed the team going to mass, and how they walked through the crowd to the stadium. The video was awesome."

The Cleveland, Ohio native traveled to South Bend with three of his teammates, and he said the first Irish coach they spoke with was Ron Powlus.

"Ron Powlus met us right away," said Ryan. "It seemed like he was the guy in charge of everything. He's a really nice guy. I liked him a lot.

"I was able to talk to their defensive coordinator (Rick Minter) for awhile, and then we went into some meetings with the other defensive ends.

"We then talked to coach Weis for awhile. He told us he really liked our film and that he really liked what he saw. He said they would definitely be recruiting us, and that they'd be in contact with us again soon. I really liked him a lot."

The top prospect says he's up to six offers right now.

Boston College, Duke, Syracuse, Michigan State, Kansas and Miami of Ohio have offered me," Ryan said. "I have a lot of other schools sending me letters."

Does Ryan have any favorites at this point?

"Being a Catholic kid from the Midwest, Boston College and Notre Dame are obviously schools I like. I also like Syracuse. Their coaches seem like really good guys."

"I actually grew up a Notre Dame fan," Ryan said when asked if he grew up a Buckeye fan living in Buckeye country. "I haven't heard a lot from Ohio State."

With Ohio State limited in scholarships this recruiting year, and taking a number of defensive ends the previous recruiting season, one can understand the limited contact he's had with the Buckeyes so far.

"Ohio State is a great school, and I'd be interested in hearing from them, but they haven't had a lot of interest so far," he said

Ryan says he plans to visit more schools in the future.

"We're going to visit some more schools soon," Ryan said. "We haven't set all of that up yet. We all got invited to go back to Notre Dame's spring game. I definitely plan to go back up there for that."

Comments: Ryan is also a solid student with a 3.5 g.p.a. The Irish appear pretty interested in Ryan, and we wouldn't be surprised if the Irish started recruiting him pretty heavily. We'll check back with him soon to see if Notre Dame starts recruiting him more.
