Ryan Excited About New Offer

Defensive end John Ryan left Notre Dame's junior day last weekend without an offer, but that didn't discourage the 6-5, 240-pound Cleveland, Ohio native in his interest in the Irish. Ryan received some good news on Monday, and we spoke to Ryan about his good news on Tuesday night.

Defensive end John Ryan received some great news on Monday.

"I received an offer from Notre Dame," said Ryan. "We got there late to junior day because we had a snowstorm in Cleveland so coach Weis said he didn't get the chance to sit down and talk to me and offer me at junior day."

The offer came as a big surprise to the Cleveland native.

"I was really surprised," Ryan said. "I wasn't expecting that. You never think in a 1,000 years that you'll get an offer from Notre Dame, and when you do, it's an amazing feeling."

Ryan said he spoke with head coach Charlie Weis shortly after receiving his offer.

"I told him it's an unbelievable honor to be offered by Notre Dame," he said. "Coach Weis said he really liked what he saw on my film and that I earned it.

"He said I have great speed off the edge, and that they need a couple of guys who can come off the edge. He said he was hoping I'd be one of those guys to fill that spot.

"He also told me they were going to take two defensive ends in this class and they were going to offer four total.

"He also asked me if I had any questions. I asked him what life was like at Notre Dame off the field. He told me that greatest thing about Notre Dame is that every kid here wishes they could play football for Notre Dame, and that transfers over when they're cheering for you on Saturday's. I loved hearing that."

We also asked Ryan what his family's reaction was to the Notre Dame offer.

We're a family of Notre Dame fans here so they were all really excited," Ryan said. "My dad is over telling our next door neighbor right now. His son played baseball for Notre Dame so we're all very excited about the offer."

What's next on the plate for Ryan?

"It's pretty much Notre Dame and Boston College right now," said Ryan of his two favorites. "I haven't been to Boston College since I went there for camp last year. I'm going to go there the Thursday and Friday before Notre Dame's spring game.

"I'm then going to go back to Notre Dame for their spring game. I just want to go check out both schools again. I should have a better idea then what I plan to do. If I don't, I'll probably visit each school again sometime later."

Comments: Ryan seemed thrilled with his Irish offer. Notre Dame definitely made an impression on his during his junior day visit. It sounds like a decision should come sometime soon for Ryan, and we'll be checking back with him again very soon.
