Wujciak Set For Irish Visit

Alex Wujciak, a 6-3 228-pound linebacker prospect from Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.), is starting to accumulate offers and make his plans for the summer. Irish Eyes caught up with this talented player to get an update on his plans and see if he's attending the Notre Dame spring game.

Notre Dame has always had success recruiting the talent-rich state of New Jersey. In fact last year Notre Dame had 8 players on the roster from the "garden state." With the graduation of Kyle Budinscak, Ryan Grant and Lionel Bolen, it's time for the Irish to restock the shelves.

One likely New Jersey target this year will be Alex Wujciak, and he and his dad will be making the 12-hour drive this Friday to watch the Irish spring game.

"I'm heading out with my dad," explained Wujciak. "Notre Dame had invited me out to a couple of their other junior days, but I was still playing basketball so I couldn't make it – plus I really wanted to make it for the spring game.

"My dad spoke with coach Powlus to let him know we were coming. I haven't spoken to the coaches yet, but I'm looking forward to meeting them."

Alex receives letters from Notre Dame all the time, so the Irish staff is staying in close contact. Besides Notre Dame, Alex is considering Boston College, Virginia (offer), Maryland (offer), Penn State (offer), Michigan State (offer), Syracuse (offer), Duke (offer), Wisconsin, Iowa and Stanford.

Schools have talked about Alex playing a number of positions at the next level. On defense he could play a couple linebacker positions, and on offense he has been hearing tight end.

"I really don't have a preference," Wujciak said "I like linebacker, but wouldn't mind playing offense. I like to get an opportunity to catch the ball. I know coach Weis will use players on both sides of the ball."

Wujciak hasn't solidified his summer football camp plans, but he was considering taking a trip back to South Bend with a number of friends for the Notre Dame camp. He said he'd likely attend the Boston College camp as well.

Comments: Alex hasn't been on the Notre Dame campus for a number of years, so this will be an important visit. It's always a good sign when a recruit travels a long distance to make an unofficial visit. Wujciak is probably one of the top linebackers on the east coast and the Irish have a very good shot at landing him if they offer.
