Aldridge Returns From Irish Spring Game

Merrillville, Ind. running back James Aldridge has been high on the Irish for quite some time. The 6-1, 210-pound Aldridge visited Notre Dame over the weekend for their annual Blue-Gold game. We caught up with Aldridge on Sunday to get his thoughts on the weekend.

"It went pretty good," said James Aldridge of his visit to Notre Dame. "I got a lot of my questions answered as far as academics go. I also got a chance to see what I was going to be squared up against."

We asked Aldridge what he meant by that.

"I got to see Darius Walker run in a game situation. I didn't get to see (Justin) Hoskins run, but I got to see Darius run," he said. "He's a really patient runner with good feet. He's a good back."

Aldridge has mentioned before that playing time is very important to him. We asked him if that is the main concern he has at Notre Dame right now.

"That's the only negative," he said about Notre Dame. "I don't mind competition, and I know I'll have competition no matter where I go, but he'll be a junior when I get there so he'll likely get most of the carries.

"It's kind of a bad time for me to walk in there, but I do think I can get some carries so it might not be a bad thing. They didn't take a back last year though so that's a good thing."

We asked James why playing as a freshman was so important to him.

"I've always wanted to be that impact player," he said. "The type of back that can come in a make an impact his freshman season. I want to make that kind of difference to a team. I was hoping to be settled in by the sixth game of my freshman season and making a name for myself.

"I still think I can do that at Notre Dame, but I don't think it's as good a situation as Oklahoma State. But Notre Dame has a lot of other things about it that I really like."

We asked Aldridge what his future plans were for recruiting at this point.

"I've got a lot of coaches coming to see me in the month of May," Aldridge said. "I think I'll just talk to them and see what they have to say.

"Pete Carroll is coming sometime soon. Coach Weis, coach Ianello and coach Haywood are also coming. I have some coaches from Virginia and Virginia Tech also coming. I'm just going to wait and see what they have to say and then try to make my decision."

Comments: James said he really enjoyed the spring game despite the weather. Irish fans were hoping Aldridge would decide soon, but it just might take some time before that happens. We still think Notre Dame has a good shot to land this talented player. Top Stories
