Offers Climbing for Maddox

John Maddox has had Notre Dame among his favorites for most of this year, but recent reports had the Irish slipping with this West Philadelphia Catholic high school star wide receiver. Where do the Irish stand now that the May evaluation period has begun? What are his plans for this summer?

Some recent reports have shown the Irish sliding down the list of priorities for wide receiver John Maddox and that has some Notre Dame fans nervous. I caught up with John to see if Notre Dame had fallen off the lead group.

"No, I still like Notre Dame," Maddox said. "I've just been looking at other schools, and I like those schools as well.

"Me and my coach are still planning on visiting Notre Dame this summer," said Maddox. "We're going to take a Midwest trip so we'll stop by then."

Does John have a top five or top ten at this time?

"Syracuse, Penn St., Rutgers, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville are the main schools right now," said Maddox "All but Notre Dame and Michigan have offered."

"I also have offers from North Carolina, Akron, and Purdue. North Carolina and Purdue just came," he added.

North Carolina and Purdue aren't among his top schools, but does he have interest in them?

"Yes. I'm just starting to get information on those schools, so I'm not sure about them," he replied. "I'll check out Purdue when I do my Midwest trip, and I'd like to visit North Carolina."

John mentioned that he had plans on attending the Penn State summer camp and that he was considering the Michigan camp as well.

Comments: While there were reports that Notre Dame had slipped with Maddox, he told me that he was still very interested in the Irish. I think Notre Dame would strengthen their position if they offered. Maddox has some very solid early offers; hopefully the Irish enter the race for this talent Philadelphia wide receiver.
