Ryan Gets Visit from Weis

Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday to visit St. Ignatius star defensive end John Ryan. The 6-5, 230-pound Ryan has narrowed his college choices down to two schools. Irish Eye caught up with Ryan to get an update on coach Weis' visit.

"Coach Weis and coach Ianello came to school, but they couldn't talk to me," explained Ryan.

Although NCAA rules prohibit the Notre Dame coaches from speaking directly to Ryan, they did speak with John's football coach and he relayed the conversation to John.

""They didn't say anything that wasn't common knowledge," Ryan explained. "They said I was a really important recruit for them and all that stuff -- mostly the stuff that I already knew."

"Ryan still sounded very uncertain about his college decision, but he did say that he'd like to be able to tell everyone fairly soon.

""I'd like to have a decision done before the end of school," Ryan said. "I think it's best for our team and in some ways the process is wearing on me. I don't want to be a distraction to my team, so I hope to have a decision soon.

"John did say that there were a lot of coaches stopping by school. Are there any additional teams that have entered the picture?

""No," John responded. "I'm still going to decide between Notre Dame and Boston College.

"Comment: John Ryan still sounded very unsure of his final decision. St. Ignatius finishes the school year during the first week of June. While he says that he would like to have a decision by that time, I wouldn't be surprised to see it drag out a little longer.
