Brandywine Star Has 18 Offers

Brandywine (Md.) native Phillip Taylor is a big man. At 6-4, 340-pounds, Taylor can move some real estate and plenty of schools have already discovered this top prospect. Are the Irish in the race for Taylor? What did he have to say about Notre Dame?

Gwynn Park high school star Phillip Taylor has already made a name for himself in recruiting circles.

"I have 18 offers right now," Taylor said. "Maryland, Virginia, Penn State, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Cincinnati and Syracuse are some of them. I can't remember them all."

A number of schools have already taken the time to stop by his school this month.

"Maryland, Penn State, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida is coming this week, Ohio State, Michigan State and Duke are some of them that have stopped by," Taylor said. "I don't really get a chance to talk to them though because I'm in class."

The Irish have also been in contact with Taylor.

They offered me last week," he said. "It was a verbal offer. They said they really like my quickness and think I could start as a freshman because of my size and quickness."

Does Taylor have any interest in Notre Dame?

"Yes sir, I do," Taylor said. "It's a nice school. It's not a very big school, which I like. I've been keeping up with them."

The Brandywine, Md. native clearly has the size to play right away so we asked Taylor which side of the ball most schools were recruiting him to play.

"Almost all of them want me to play defensive tackle," he said. "I like defense."

Don't expect an early decision from Taylor.

"I plan to take my visits and take my time," Taylor said when ask if he had a plan on when he'd make his decision. "I'm wide open right now and I don't have any favorites.

"Distance isn't a problem for me. I'll go where I feel the most comfortable. My family and the coaches will probably be the biggest factor in where I go to school. I'll talk to them to help me make my decision."

Taylor said he has a 2.4 in his core and scored 990 on his SAT. He also said he planned to visit a number of schools this summer, but he didn't know which schools at the present time.

Comments: The Irish appear to be in the race, but I don't think they are out in front by any means. He did indicate that he's had a few conversations with ND so that's a good sign I believe. Top Stories
