Irish Visit Harvin

May was a busy month at Landstown high school (Virginia Beach, VA) as college recruiters checked in on one of the nation's top prospects, wide receiver Percy Harvin (5-11, 182 pounds). What teams stand out at this time? Are the Irish in the mix for this talented playmaker?

There is no doubt that Percy Harvin is one of the top wide receiver prospects for the 2006 recruiting class. Watching his film will remind people of former Florida State receiver Peter Warrick. Harvin has tremendous feet and makes moves that boggle defenders minds.

The Notre Dame coaching staff was just one of many that stopped into visit with the Landstown high school coaches during May in hopes that they could make an impression on Harvin. I asked Percy if he was giving Notre Dame any additional consideration after the May recruiting period.

"Probably not," replied Harvin." I pretty much have my schools that I'm considering; USC, Miami, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Michigan.

"I haven't sat down to really do my research on schools, but right now those are the main school," he added.

"I'd like to take some unofficial visits," Harvin continued. "In the next week or two I'll sit down with my coach and my mom to see what I'm going to do.

"If my mom and coach don't want me to go to a school I won't."

Comment: If Notre Dame didn't make an impact during the first several months of recruiting, I doubt that they will have a chance in the long haul. Anything can happen, but I think Irish fans can likely cross Harvin off their wish list for now.
