Wide receiver Lance Kendricks knew he had the talent to play DI football, but he wasn't sure anyone was going to notice.
"It's kind of hard to get noticed playing football here. We had another wide receiver who was a senior last year so I didn't get as many touches as I wanted so I tried to make the most out of it with the opportunities I did get.
"I guess most college coaches don't expect to find guys in Wisconsin. Most don't even think to look at it. I figured the only want to get noticed was to go out and show everyone what I could do."
Kendricks did show everyone what he could do. Measuring in at just a shade under 6-4 at the USC Nike camp, he also weighed in at 207 pounds and clocked a 4.49 in the 40. He was also ranked No. 5 out of over 300 participants at the camp.
"They said I should've run around a 4.3 but I slipped," Kendricks added.
Kendricks already had an offer from his home school (Wisconsin), but he was hoping a strong showing the Nike camp would get him noticed.
"I could've just went to the Michigan Nike camp, but I told my dad that we should go somewhere where there would be a lot of coaches to get noticed," Kendricks said. "We decided to go out (to California)."
So far at least one school was impressed.
"LSU offered me," said Kendricks when asked if his camp showing has helped him so far. "That came out of the blue. They hadn't sent me one football letter before the offer came. They told me they saw my film, but they wanted to see more, and that I showed I could play out at the camp."
A number of other schools remain interested in Milwaukee, Wisc. native as well.
"Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Iowa, Minnesota, Notre Dame and LSU were some of the schools that came by my school," Kendricks said. "All of them seem pretty interested."
Next on the schedule for King high school star is the camp circuit.
"I'm going to camp at Notre Dame (June 25), and Wisconsin (June 27) and Michigan State," he said. "I'm not sure when Michigan State's camp is scheduled."
Speaking of Notre Dame, Kendricks has already visited South Bend earlier this year for a junior day.
"It was nice," said Kendricks when asked his impression of Notre Dame. "I liked the environment there a lot. I talked with coach Ianello and all the coaches. I talked with coach Weis as well.
"Coach Ianello told me that coach Weis wants to see me in person, and that they'll offer me if I do well at their camp. Coach Ianello knows what I can do because he's from Wisconsin. Coach Weis just wants to see me at their camp.
"I want to major in architecture, and Notre Dame has one of the best schools in the country for that. I'm very interested in Notre Dame."Despite his high interest in the Irish, Wisconsin might be the team to beat.
"I guess you could say that," said Kendricks when asked if he was a Badger fan. "It's possible I could end up there. It would be convenient. They have real nice facilities there.
"But I'm still looking at all schools equally right now. I'd like to commit sometime either early or in the middle of my season. I'm going to try to take all five of my official visits."
Comments: Kendricks seems to have a sincere interest in the Irish. His camp showing will likely determine if he'll receive and offer from Notre Dame. We do think Wisconsin is sitting on top for Kendricks at this point.
