Kates Finalizing Summer Plans

Defensive lineman Jason Kates is a well-known name in recruiting circles. The 6-3, 320-pound defensive tackle prospect is one of four D1 prospects at Bishop McDevitt high school in Harrisburg, Pa. Kates has said he plans to make a number of unofficial visits this summer, and we caught up with Kates on Wednesday to see if he's made his plans yet for his unofficial visits. Will Kates be visiting Notre Dame soon?

Jason Kates certainly had a fruitful month of May.

"We had a lot of colleges stop by," said Kates about his May evaluation experience. "I think I have 25 offers right now."

The last time we spoke with Kates he mentioned he'd be taking a number of unofficial visits over the summer. Is that still the plan?

"Yeah, that is in the works right now," Kates said when asked the question. "We're working on that seeing what the best dates are that works for us."

Does Kates have any visits scheduled at this point?

"Not yet, we're working on trying to get that set. I should have that figured out soon," Kates said.

One school Kates has said he'd visit previously is Notre Dame.

"I still plan to do that," he said. "I'll probably do that real soon."

We also asked Kates if he planned to make an early decision at this point.

"Yeah, I'm trying to commit early," he said.

Does Kates have any favorites at this point?

"No, I don't want to single anyone out yet," he said. "I'm really wide open right now."

Comments: Kates said he's working with his high school coach and his family to formulate a schedule. He said he should know his itinerary pretty soon on when and where he'll be visiting. We'll check back with him soon.
