Odrick Lands Irish Offer

Now that the dust has settled from the May recruiting period, defensive end prospect Jared Odrick (6-6, 285-pounds) has started to narrow his college choices down to a manageable number.

Last time Irish Eyes spoke with Jared Odrick at the beginning of May he was waiting on an offer from Notre Dame. Did the Irish coaching staff send the standout defensive end from Lebanon high school (Pa.) an official scholarship offer?

"Yes they did," answered Odrick. "I just got it a couple days ago, actually. I'm grateful and thankful. It's an offer that I've been looking for.

"I was actually planning a trip up there to see Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame next weekend but it fell through and my parents canceled it. We're going to try to get there another time."

"I have a new offer from Alabama that is the latest one I got," Odrick added. "That's around forty offers."

Jared's top schools have offered and then some. He doesn't have a favorite two or three schools at this time, but he is in the process of narrowing his choices to a manageable number of schools.

"I've already started to do that, I tried to start to narrow it down to about 15," Odrick said. "Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, LSU, USC, Miami, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, North Carolina and a couple others.

"I'm trying to see at least ten of the schools that I'm interested in and then take my official visits to the ones I didn't see."

A team's depth chart is something all recruits consider when comparing schools. It's rarely the deciding factor, but it can tip the scales in one school's favor.

"I've taken a look at them (Notre Dame's depth chart) a little bit, not as much as I have other schools, but I'm hoping to do so," explained Odrick. "I only got to speak with coach Latina once or twice, actually, and I want to get into better contact with both the offensive and defensive line coaches, but mainly the defensive line coach and check out the depth chart.

Comments: In prior conversations it sounded like Jared was very interested in Notre Dame, but I just didn't sense the same enthusiasm during this conversation. He has a ton of offers, which indicates that he is one of the top prospects in the country. Hopefully Notre Dame can get him to campus and rekindle his interest.
