McNeil Talks about Visit to South Bend

The Irish coaching staff and fans alike know how important it is to land a talented cornerback in the 2006 recruiting class. One player the staff has made a priority is North Carolina native Raeshon McNeil (6-0, 175-pound). He recently visited Notre Dame for an unofficial visit and Irish Eyes caught up with this talented athlete to talk about his visit to South Bend.

"It went nice," Raeshon McNeil responded when asked about his visit to Notre Dame. "I kind of took a look around at everything; met all of the guys up there, and they showed me a real good time.

"I did meet some of the players, Darius Walker and Maurice Stovall, McNeil said. "I hung with Darius Friday night -- I liked him. He's a guy I could definitely get along with.

When Charlie Weis visited McNeil's high school in May, the standout cornerback didn't get much of an opportunity to speak with the new Irish coach, but during McNeil's recent trip to South Bend the standout corner spoke to Weis at length and had this to say about him:

"I liked him a lot; he seemed like a real genuine guy. He meant everything that he was telling me.

"I didn't get to see much of the city," continue McNeil. "But it didn't seem that much different than North Carolina. We were around campus a lot, but it's definitely something I could get used to.

McNeil had previously mentioned Virginia and Notre Dame as his favorites, so I asked how this trip affected his decision.

"Overall I like them both," Raeshon responded. "I'm going to take a visit up to Virginia Tech in a little bit. Those are the ones I'm really interested in as of now.

"Tennessee asked me to come down on June18th, but I was able to make it. I haven't talked to them about going again, so I'm not sure about them.

McNeil confirmed that his was still planning and attending a school that is out of state.

Comment: McNeil is a must and it looks like the Irish will have a very good shot at landing him, although Virginia, his early favorite will provide plenty of competition. I believe Raeshon is looking to get his decision over fairly soon, as I think the recruiting process is wearing on him.
