Brown Is Not Done With Recruiting, Yet

Michigan had a sizeable lead on everyone else with the recruitment of Steve Brown. Now that he's taken three more unofficial visits where does Brown stand?

Due to his performance at the Ann Arbor Nike Camp everyone jumped at Steve Brown, SS, 6-1, 200-pounds, Columbus, Ind., (East). It's not every day that a kid runs a 4.39 forty at 200 pounds, hence the interest from so many schools.

Brown was planning to take unofficial visits to three area programs, and he did just that recently. He gave high marks to all three schools.

So how did his unofficial visit to Michigan go?

"It went real well," Brown said. "It was an academic day."

How did the Purdue visit go?

"It went well. They had a bunch of camps going on though so I didn't get to talk to their coaches that much. I just did my tour and stuff. They told me to come back on Aug. 7 for an academic day.

And Notre Dame?

"That went well too. I got to meet with their academic people too."

Ever since that day Brown has been a hot commodity. And now his recruitment is starting to wind down, at least some what.

"I'm pretty much down to Notre Dame or Michigan," Brown said of his recruitment.

Does either team lead?

"That's a really hard decision," Brown said after a few moments of hesitation. "It's close. Real close!"

SMITTY'S TAKE - Anyone that would have told me Notre Dame would be in this position with Brown right now I would have said they were nuts. I thought he was all but signed, sealed and delivered to Ann Arbor. Now it is truly anyone's ball game.

Brown said he would like to make a final decision by the start of his football season. Top Stories
