Future Schedules

Notre Dame will be continuing to play one of the more rugged schedules in the country over the course of the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Several formidable teams are also potential opponents during the years ahead.

Depending upon which side of the fence you currently sit, you either loathe the traditional Notre Dame scheduling philosophy or relish it. While Notre Dame will be adding a seventh home game to its schedule in the near future, the 2006 and 2007 schedules have several more daunting opponents.

Teams such as Michigan State and Purdue have been a nemesis to the Irish over the course of the last eight seasons, but in all fairness to the Spartans and Boilermakers, Notre Dame has what appears to be several more daunting teams facing it down the road.

Just looking at the 2006 schedule it is easy to see that Notre Dame is not trying to dodge anyone. Opening with Georgia Tech in Atlanta is not going to be a walk in the park. While Penn State has struggled mightily over the course of the past five seasons you can bet that the Nittany Lions will be fired up for the Notre Dame home opener the following week. And of course nothing needs to be said when Michigan comes to South Bend the week after that.

Here is a look at the upcoming 2006 schedule first hand:

Sep 2 @ Georgia Tech

Sep 09 Penn State

Sep 16 Michigan

Sep 23 @ Michigan State

Sep 30 Purdue

Oct 07 Stanford

Oct 21 UCLA

Oct 28 @ Navy

Nov 04 North Carolina

Nov 11 @ Air Force

Nov 25 @ Southern California

Notre Dame is currently trying to solidify a seventh home game for the 2006 season but to date nothing has been officially announced.

The Notre Dame schedule for 2007 is going to open with the same first five opponents as it did in 2006, but the home games will now be road games and vice versa. The interesting stretch to watch will be during October when the Irish play @ UCLA and home to Boston College and Southern California the next two Saturdays after that. Those three games will be a part of eight consecutive weeks that the Irish play without a week off.

Sep 01 Georgia Tech

Sep 08 @ Penn State

Sep 15 @ Michigan

Sep 22 Michigan State

Sep 29 @ Purdue

Oct 06 @ UCLA

Oct 13 Boston College

Oct 20 Southern California

Nov 03 Navy

Nov 10 Air Force

Nov 24 @ Stanford

2007 is another year in which the Irish could potentially add a twelfth game.

Future Opponents

As the end of this decade comes to a close there are rumors that Notre Dame is in the process of trying to schedule such teams as Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee and Florida State once again. Which teams from this list, if any that make it onto the schedule for sure is up in the air, at least to the public. Just something to chew on…
