Darrin Walls is Scout.com's No. 6 rated cornerback nationally, but he might be the No. 1 priority for the Notre Dame football staff. Notre Dame recruiting fans understand the need just as much, which is why there was concern amongst Irish fans when it was being reported that Walls had narrowed his college choices down to Michigan and Pitt.
"That's not true," said Walls. "I think something was misunderstood or misquoted, I'm not sure."
In an earlier conversation with Irish Eyes, Darrin had discussed the timing of his decision, so I asked him if he had firmed up a date for an announcement.
"I am going to take my official visits," he explained. "I'm probably going to take three or four, but if I feel I have a strong chemistry with the coaches, and I'm comfortable with the school that I'm going to choose, I'll probably make a commitment before the season.
"I could go on a couple visits (after that) to make sure," he added. "I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something that's out there."
"I don't know what days I'm going to take them, but I know I'm going to take them (official visits) to Notre Dame, Michigan and Florida.
After a busy summer of passing camps, Walls and his teammates will begin running routes and working on coverage next week. Shortly after that they'll begin contact, something Walls is eagerly awaiting.
Comment: Something didn't sound right when the reports came out that Walls had eliminated Notre Dame, and now Darrin has confirmed that he is still strongly considering Notre Dame. I think he likes the Irish quite a bit, but both Michigan and Florida are great options for him and they will make very every effort to sign him. I could see him selecting any of the three.
