Game day official visits are becoming more and more popular by the year. Toryan Smith, LB, 6-1, 230-pounds, Rome, Ga. is taking this approach.
"I set my fourth visit up with Nebraska for when they play Oklahoma," Smith commented with a text message.
After hearing that I called Smith to see how his recruitment was going. A new team has entered his top tier of schools.
"Oklahoma, LSU (Louisiana State), Notre Dame…and Florida," he said of his top schools.
So why the keen interest in the Tigers?
"They're a big-time program. I'll be watching them."
Smith now has official visits set up to Oklahoma (Sep. 3) for its contest against Texas Christian, Notre Dame (Oct. 15) when it hosts arch-rival Southern California, Michigan (Nov. 19) for the annual clash with Ohio State, and Nebraska (Oct. 29) for its game against the Sooners.
Smith said he still does not plan to take any official visits to programs down south. UCLA and Washington are two schools that could end up vying for his last official visit, but others are certainly in the hunt as well.
SMITTY'S TAKE - Oklahoma appears to be the team to beat right now. Smith always mentions the Sooners first. Not a good sign. Louisiana State barging into the party is not a good sign either. That makes the first two schools within Smith's top four schools have won big during the last few years. If this is what Smith is truly looking for Notre Dame had better big this year. A mighty tall order with its schedule laid out the way it is. Maybe it's just me, but I think Notre Dame and Florida are the two schools that Smith is curious to see how they perform this next season.
