Notre Dame targeted Georgia product Asher Allen (5-10, 180 pounds) early in the recruiting process, but the distance and change in scenery is likely too much for the Irish coaching staff to overcome.
"I don't know if I want to go to school that far away. I want to stay down South," Allen replied when asked if he was still interested in Notre Dame. "I want to stay close to my family."
"They (Notre Dame) have great coaches and everything, and they have great people up there, but I just don't think I want to go that far up there," Allen added.
With Notre Dame out of the mix for Asher, which schools is he still considering? "I have narrowed things down, it's mainly the SEC and ACC schools that I'm looking at; schools around the area like LSU to the west and Clemson and down (south).
"I'm going to try to take my official visits; I'm going to try to take them as early as I can, and then after that I should be able to make my decision," he said.
Comments: Asher seemed to be interested in Notre Dame in the spring, but as it happens so often in recruiting, drawing him from north was too big of a hurdle. Asher is a solid kid and an outstanding prospect, the type of kid Notre Dame needs to land. For now, it appears the Irish will have to target other cornerback targets.
