Offensive lineman Alex Stadler already has some impressive offers early in the recruiting season.
"I have 26 offers right now," Stadler said when asked how many scholarships he has picked up so far. Teams like Florida State, Michigan, Alabama and Virginia Tech are just some of the top schools that have offered him.
Stadler has also visited a few of his favorites already.
"I went to Michigan camp for a day, and then I went to Boston College and U. Conn for unofficial visits," Stadler said of his summer travels.
"I liked all three of them. I found something I liked about all three of them."
The Irish have also offered the 6-6, 300-pound Stadler.
"I received an offer from them in late June...the 27th I think," Stadler said. "I was really excited about that. I had been getting to know coach Latina pretty well, and he just said it was time to offer me. I was pretty excited about that."
We asked Stadler what he liked about the Irish at this point.
"I like coach Latina," he said. "I also like the tradition they have there. Coach Weis, I think he seems like a guy who's going to turn the program around. I also kind of grew up a Notre Dame fan."
As for now, the Irish have made the cut of nine at this point.
"Alabama, FSU, Duke, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Boston College, U. Conn and Notre Dame," said Stadler when asked about which schools he liked at this point.
"I have nine now, but I'm hoping to narrow that down in September. I have an open date in September so I'll probably take an official visit during that date. The rest of my officials will probably come after my season," he added.
At 6-6 and 300 pounds, Stadler plays guard in high school, but that will likely change in college according to the Liberty high school standout.
"I play guard in high school, but most schools are saying they like me at tackle," he said. "Coach Latina says he likes me at tackle because of my athletic ability and height."
Comments: Stadler seems pretty open at this point and not really leaning towards any particular school. The Irish do appear to be in the race for his signature. We'll bet they'll be competing hard for that first official visit in September as well. We'll check back soon with Stadler to see if he's scheduled his first official visit.
