Walls May Decide Early

Generally speaking the top cover cornerbacks decide late as a rule. Darrin Walls is certainly one of the nation's premiere cover cornerbacks, but he may go against the grain and make his decision early.

Coaches from across the country are recruiting Darrin Walls, 6-1, 175-pounds, Pittsburgh, Pa., (Woodland Hills). Name a major program and it has probably inquired about Walls at one time or another this year.

Walls is considering making a "soft verbal" to a school before his season starts, but still taking his official visits. It appears that three lucky schools have the edge right now.

"I set one (official) visit up with Florida for Sep. 17 when they play Tennessee," Walls said.

Walls is fairly confident he will take his official visit to Michigan when the Wolverines host the Irish, with one other official visit likely as well.

"I think we're going to try the SC game," said Walls of his official visit plans for Notre Dame.

Other schools Walls mentioned during the conversation as possibilities were Southern California, Penn State, West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

SMITTY'S TAKE - I'm not exactly sure what a soft verbal is even though I have heard the term countless times over the years. It doesn't really matter anyway if Walls is going to take official visits.

Walls is hoping to have a final decision by the end of October, perhaps sooner.
