It's likely a lot of players will end up finishing their seasons going up against Greg Oden as the years pass. But that didn't make the 85-46 loss to Oden and his Spiece Indy Heat team in Las Vegas any easier for Tom Herzog and the rest of the Michigan Hurricanes squad.
"Our team came out real flat," Herzog admitted, "and they have a really good team. I've played against Greg before, and he's just a really strong player. It's tough to defend him when you're close to the basket. But I think I did pretty well."
With the AAU season finished, Herzog plans to work on his strength and low-post moves during his senior season, perhaps to make future games against the Greg Odens of the game turn out better for him. But he also is refining his college choices. Has he moved from his reported list of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Illinois?
"No, that's still my list," he responded, "and that list definitely won't be getting any bigger."
So all that remains is a chance to see those campuses more closely. Having visited Michigan in the spring, he'll now focus on the other schools on the list. "I don't have any visits set up as far as dates go," he said, "but I'm going to be visiting Michigan State and Notre Dame in the fall for sure."
Herzog wouldn't give a timetable for his decision, nor would he rank the schools on the list. So it looks like the next news the big man will have will be once those campus visits are done.
