Kates Focused on Season

Notre Dame is still looking for its first commitment from a defensive tackle prospect. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) standout Jason Kates is a prospect the Irish have had on their radar since the beginning of the year. Has Kates settled on a date to announce his decision or does he plan to take some official visits?

With college and high schools alike hitting the field for fall football practice, recruiting often takes a back seat. That certainly is the case with Jason Kates.

"I haven't been talking to any coaches or anything," Kates said. "I've just been doing two-a-days so I haven't really done much with it (recruiting) lately.

"I don't know right now," Kates replied when asked if he had decided to schedule official visits. "I hadn't been thinking anything about that until you called. I'm just trying to concentrate on my team right now.

Kates and his teammates open their season September 2 against State College high school. The following day the Irish open their season 200 miles to the west against Pittsburgh. Is Jason going to make the trek to Hines Field?

"I didn't even know that. I didn't even look at their schedule. I didn't do anything like that," he answered.

"I'm just trying to have a big season, so I've kind of put everything behind me. I'm not really worried about it right now," Kates said.

Comments: A month ago many thought that Jason would have decided by now, but it looks like it may be sometime before he makes his college choice. Jason will probably schedule some official visits and make a decision after his season.
